Excluded words

We tend to err on the side of caution when deciding if a word will be excluded or not. Kids play this game, too, so we have to consider that, and occasionally, people write in to say that a word that isn't excluded should be, so it can go both ways.

Squaredle primarily focuses on American English, but regardless of a player's country or region, there will always be words that someone is more familiar with than others, and vice versa — including familiarity with a word's possibly sensitive meaning.

We often put words up for a community vote in Discord to see if more people feel that a particular word should be excluded rather than bonus or required. There are thoughtful discussions in our Discord community regarding sensitive/excluded words, and all opinions and arguments for and against are taken into consideration.
